Empowering educational journeys: academic self-concept, hope, and tertiary education engagement among emerging adults exposed to varied childhood experiences with Dr Keith Houghton
September 26 - 16:30 to 17:00
FreeEP Reach-Out are very excited to welcome back Dr Keith Houghton.
This doctoral thesis explores the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) on Academic Self-Concept (ASC) and Hope, particularly focusing on their influence on tertiary education engagement among emerging adults. Through a two-phase, sequential explanatory mixed-method study, The research examines both the quantitative relationships between childhood experiences and levels of ASC and Hope and the qualitative mechanisms that allow individuals to maintain Higher ASC and Hope levels despite varied childhoods.
The research contributes valuable insights into how educational psychologists can better support young people with diverse backgrounds, fostering more effective engagement and personal growth in tertiary education.
