Project: Exploring EPs’ work with children and families with English as an Additional Language
This project aims to explore the scope of EPs’ involvement in working with children, young people and families where English is spoken as an additional language, their professional practice experiences of doing so, and factors that may influence their work with this group.

Project focus
The number of people living in England who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) continues to increase. This includes the number of students attending schools for whom English is an Additional Language. As part of their professional practice, EPs are required to understand the requirement to adapt their practice to meet the needs of a range of individuals, including those from different ethnic and socio-cultural groups.
Currently there is little research exploring the work between EPs and CYP/families with EAL. Therefore, this research aims to explore EPs’ professional practice experiences and perceptions of working with CYP and families with EAL, as well as factors that may affect their work with this group.
