The aim of this research was to explore the question; How do parents experience the role of advocating for their child’s Autism assessment?

Parents were recognised as narrators rather than participants as a narrative thematic analysis approach was adopted. Sub themes related to advocating include;

  • challenging professionals/systems
  • fight
  • waiting
  • concern dismissed
  • education/experience and evidence
