SUMMARY:Introduction to projective assessment in EP practice: Children's apperception test (CAT)
DESCRIPTION:Projective techniques are powerful tools to gain the voice of the child and explore aspects of their experience that may not be well understood. When carefully analysed and triangulated with other sources of information\, projective techniques can open up conversations with children\, families and staff that can facilitate deep understanding of difficulties\, and help to create change. \nThis course will provide an introduction to techniques and resources that can be easily incorporated into EP work. Attendees will have opportunities for reflective peer supervision and develop their skills in administrating\, analysing\, feeding back and reporting on projective material.\nThe course is made up of 7 sessions. The greatest benefit will come from attending the course as a whole\, but there are limited tickets available for individual sessions. All sessions will take place on Tuesdays from 6-8pm via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. \nLearning Objectives:\nTo provide an introduction to the history of the test and how it is used.\nTo explore administration of the test.\nTo develop an understanding of approaches to analysis of the test.\nTo develop confidence in the analysis of the test through practice and reflective peer supervision of a live case. Participants are encouraged to try out the test and bring material to the session. It is hoped that each person will have an opportunity to present material throughout the course.

This experiential qualification enables practitioners to develop the skills\, knowledge and understanding to make effective use of a therapeutic group to support change for children and young people effectively. \nWho is this course for?\nThis qualification is suitable for those staff using group work with children or young people in either school or care settings. It is also suitable for adoptive parents and guardians. These groups may be for all ages and abilities such as: circle times\, youth clubs\, nurture groups or after-school clubs. \nThe course will include: \nWhat makes a group therapeutic?\nThe theories which can underpin and support groups.\nExploring how the group itself is the key therapeutic resource.\nWorking with dynamics\, roles and resistance in groups.\nChild development.\nThe aims of the group and assessing its effectiveness.\nSetting up and running a group.\nRecording and evaluating your group.\nWhat is expected of participants? \nThis course will run for a period of approximately six months. Taught half day sessions will take place through a mix of online & face-to-face sessions as well as 3 overnight residentials at our MB3 site in Gloucestershire. DESCRIPTION:Projective techniques are powerful tools to gain the voice of the child and explore aspects of their experience that may not be well understood. When carefully analysed and triangulated with other sources of information\, projective techniques can open up conversations with children\, families and staff that can facilitate deep understanding of difficulties\, and help to create change. \nThis course will provide an introduction to techniques and resources that can be easily incorporated into EP work. Attendees will have opportunities for reflective peer supervision and develop their skills in administrating\, analysing\, feeding back and reporting on projective material. \nLearning Objectives:\nTo provide an introduction to the history of the test and how it is used.\nTo explore administration of the test.\nTo develop an understanding of approaches to analysis of the test.\nTo develop confidence in the analysis of the test through practice and reflective peer supervision of a live case. Participants are encouraged to try out the test and bring material to the session. It is hoped that each person will have an opportunity to present material throughout the course.

DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic caused massive disruption to all our lives This has had a particular impact on the lives of Autistic children and young people (CYP). As things return to a ‘new normal’\, many educationalists and parents are reporting that there continue to be major concerns about Autistic CYP in terms of emotional well-being\, high anxiety levels\, non-attendance\, educational progress and the well-being of school staff. \nThis online Study Morning has been organised by the Educational Psychology Autism Special Interest Group (EP-ASIG). The keynote speaker is Professor Liz Pellicano\, University College London\, whose research has sought to understand and investigate the perspectives and experiences of al group of Australian children and their parents and to consider how some of the more positive aspects of the experience might inform a way forward for those working with such CYP. \nLiz will talk about research on the experiences of Autistic students and parental experiences during the pandemic and there will be an opportunity for questions.

DESCRIPTION:Cost for all four sessions. \nThis is a virtual space open to qualified EPs with an interest in developing their confidence and skills in using a variety of projective techniques including drawing and storytelling techniques. There will be a particular focus on the dialogue\, therapeutic aspects of the assessment and professional experience in using these tools.\nThe session will focus on ‘case discussion’ using the ‘Thinking Together’ reflective group process (approach from the AMBIT model from the Anna Freud Centre) in sharing cases and professional practice. \nThe space will be held virtually online on: \nThursday 19th January 3.30-5pm\nThursday 16th March 3.30-5pm\nThursday 18th May 3.30-5pm\nThursday 29th June 3.30-5pm \nIdeally for the group process we invite participants to attend all four sessions.\nSingle session attendance can be considered.
