SUMMARY:Catch up or connection
DESCRIPTION:This session is provided free but you are also welcome to donate to allow further resource development. \nThere is on-going narrative in education\, policy and the media about what children need in returning to school. Is it catch-up? Connection? Perhaps a return to routine? \nIn this session\, Sarah Dove reports the findings of a national survey ‘thinking about school’ that was completed by over 1500 children and young people. \nWe also take a closer look at the perspectives of children being educated in PRUs\, AP\, hospital schools and special schools. We also explore the experiences of children with medical needs preventing physical attendance to school. \nIn attending this webinar\, you will be provided with a PDF resource bank of materials and ideas to help children secure a #RightReturn to school. You will also have the opportunity to network and share ideas with colleagues and other professionals.

SUMMARY:Is that clear? Effective communication in a neurodiverse world - Autism-inspired tips for allistic (non-autistic) people with Joe Butler\, Zanne Gaynor and Kathryn Alevizos
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will presented during Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2021.\nJoe has recently co-authored a book of the same name\, and will introduce the rationale behind the book as well as why autistic people in particular have expressed the need for it. She will share practical strategies to ensure greater clarity for\, and inclusivity of\, autistic people in everyday communications. By exploring Double Empathy theory\, Joe will discuss the responsibilities allistic people have in better understanding and validating the differences in how autistic people may communicate. She will also examine how consideration\, small adjustments\, and allistic people owning their miscommunications can minimise mutual misunderstandings\, and enable more effective two-way communication. \nBook review https://edpsy.org.uk/blog/2021/book-review-is-that-clear-effective-communication-in-a-neurodiverse-world/

SUMMARY:An exploration of school staff and educational psychologists perceptions of promoting a sense of belonging and self-identity in children and young people who attend internal inclusion units in schools with Lianne Lusted (TEP)
DESCRIPTION:This presentation provides an overview of the research project Lianne carried out as a Year 1 Trainee Educational Psychologist. Lianne interviewed EPs and school staff with experience of internal inclusion rooms. These internal inclusion areas are widely used although there is limited guidance on them. These areas vary from supportive environments to punitive areas as part of a sanction hierarchy. The research questions aimed to answer how teachers perceive children who attend internal inclusion areas; how supported teachers feel in restoring a child’s self-identity or sense of belonging following attendance in internal inclusion areas; and how EPs see their role in supporting staff to build self-identity and a sense of belonging in children/ young people who have attended internal inclusion rooms.
