SUMMARY:Supervision for applied psychologists in schools and community contexts: Working relationally and reflectively (4 days)
DESCRIPTION:Day 1: 2 October 2017\nDay 2: 6 November 2017\nDay 3: 8 January 2018\nDay 4: 23 March 2018\n\nThis course is informed by the integration of psychological theory and research and practice-based evidence on supervision. It aims to ensure all participants understand the importance of participation in ethical and anti-discriminatory supervision across their career\, and in making use of various supervisory models to reflect on and review practice. It provides an opportunity to develop supervisory skills and competencies\, including those outlined in the British Psychological Society’s Division of Educational and Child Psychology Guidelines for Professional Supervision Practice. \nUpon successful completion of this course participants will have increased knowledge in: \n\nAims\, functions and models of supervision\nThe professional\, ethical and legal contexts within which supervision is provided issues pertaining to difference and diversity in supervision.\n\nUpon successful completion of this course participants will enhance skills in: \n\nEstablishing\, developing and ending a supervisory relationship including contracting and reviewing the effectiveness for supervisee and supervisor supervisory processes.\nCommunication within the supervisory context\, including the provision and receipt of feedback [and evaluation where relevant.

SUMMARY:Understanding and meeting the needs of migrant\, refugee and asylum-seeking children & families: challenges and developments in educational psychology practice
DESCRIPTION:Price dependent on level of qualification and nature of employment. \nThis study day focuses on the particular challenges experienced by migrant\, refugee and asylum-seeking children\, young people and their families\, and the contingent challenges faced by schools and other community settings in anticipating and meeting so widely divergent a profile of needs. \nThe agenda includes keynote presentations on understanding trauma and supporting the emotional resilience of refugee and other newly arrived children/young people\, and the BPS’ Presidential Task Force ‘Guidance for Psychologists’ in anticipating and responding to the needs of refugees\, asylum seekers\, and other migrants in the UK. The day will also provide opportunities for lively exchange-based learning about Service developments between colleagues from different work settings around caseload and systemic work relating to this population.
