SUMMARY:Looking at nurture in educational environments
DESCRIPTION:The Mulberry Bush & The International Centre Research Group warmly invites you to our event; Looking at Nurture in Educational Environments where we will be presenting research focused on nurture groups in Malta & The UK. \nThe first presentation will look at children’s reflections on being in a nurture group and the support they received through journal writing\, drawings and discussions. Findings from this small scale study of six children in a nurture group in Malta suggest the children viewed the group as a positive and safe base where they felt supported and guided in thrive to be better. \nThe second presentation will be presented by Dr Ruth Seymour from The Mulberry Bush’s Outreach Team and Dr David Colley. They will be presenting the results from their recent research study; a guide to successfully setting up a secondary school nurture group. This research is based on experiences\, opinions and ideas of professionals working in the field. \nWe will end the session by reflecting and discussing what is next for nurture groups.

SUMMARY:Reducing the Harmful effects of exposure to Domestic Violence & Abuse on Children and Young People
DESCRIPTION:The Home Office classifies Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) as “Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling\, coercive or threatening behaviour\, violence and abuse between those aged 16 or over\, who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender and sexuality.” The Children Act (Section 31\, Children Act 1989\, amended 2002) states that “children who witness domestic violence suffer emotional and psychological maltreatment”. It is estimated 1 in 7 UK children will be exposed to DVA. \nThis CPD certified masterclass will consider the role of toxic stress and trauma in the pathway to interpersonal violence between parents\, and the climate of violence which harms the mental health and development of children and young people. A trauma-informed model of identification\, risk assessment\, protection and modular intervention will be outlined to reduce the harmful effects of Domestic Violence and Abuse. \nThere is a 20% discount available with code hcuk20edpsy
