SUMMARY:Reed Webinar Series: Challenges facing Educational Psychologists today - a Canadian perspective
DESCRIPTION:Educational Psychologists\, indeed all of the “helping professions”\, are feeling the impact of increasingly polarizing political climates – locally\, nationally and internationally. This CPD will review the challenges facing society at large\, educational institutions and the professional associations\, making it more and more difficult to ensure equitable practice grounded in evidence based research. \nThis session will explore the similarities and differences between the Canadian and UK systems\, as well as the increasing disconnect between the need for ensuring psychological safety for all students\, educators and families\, and the realities that exist when trained professionals\, in their desire to do the right thing\, may inadvertently become part of the problem\, rather than the solution. \nThe session will discuss various strategies used in Canada to attempt the bridge the gaps between theory\, policies and practice. It will examine some best practices in the Canadian system\, and encourage discussion of how to implement current best practices in both jurisdictions\, in spite of the challenges that face educational psychologists today worldwide.

SUMMARY:Residency webinar 2. Psychology under capitalism (Ontology 2)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nIn our second part on ontology we will continue to build on the foundations we have laid by looking at how society works under capitalism\, how it allows us to act and prevents us from acting depending on where we lie in its hierarchies\, in order to think about how we might change society to improve the psychologies of those who live within it. \nWe will first think about how these hierarchies are formed by introducing the concept of class-conflict. \nWe will then explore the linked theory of class consciousness to help understand how capitalism acts to maintain itself by shaping our subjectivity in three primary ways: \n\nvia ideology and the shaping of social norms\nvia direct forms of oppression\, and\nvia the imperative to earn money.\n\nKey learning outcomes\nBy the end of the seminar you should have an understanding of: \n\nClass conflict/Class consciousness\nIdeology\nDirect Repression/Violence\nMute Compulsion – how if we don’t participate in capitalism (earning money)\, we suffer\nHow identity and class interact with capitalist social relations.\nHow traditional liberal psychology has acted to support the status quo\nExplore what a radical psychology might offer in terms of challenging existing hierarchies at the level of ideology and class consciousness.\n\nTickets\n\nStandard: £39\nTrainee/student: £20 (you must register using your FE/HE .ac.uk email address\n\nAll webinars will be recorded\nAll ticket holders will receive a link to a recording of the session – to rewatch or in case you can’t attend live. Recordings are only available to ticket holders. \nAbout the ‘Radical Psychology\, Real Change’ webinar series\nRadical Psychology\, Real Change will be a monthly seminar series that attempts to address the problems outlined above by reviving the legacy of our radical forebears\, critiquing the false radicalism of current practice and presenting new ways of thinking in order to push for revolutionary new ways of thinking in the psychological professions\, so that as psychologists we can go out into the world and make real change. \nThe seminar series will be accessible to all psychologists\, at all levels of their career from training through to management. Its analytical framework will be founded on a different set of key thinkers and ontological presuppositions than you will find on psychology doctoral courses and will fundamentally challenge many of the established norms set out within those institutions.

SUMMARY:DERC webinar series: An inquiry into the love of learning
DESCRIPTION:This session\, run as part of the Development Education Research Centre seminar series\, reports on a research project that explored the beliefs\, policies and practices in ten primary schools across England\, who were engaging pupils well and fostering an authentic love of learning. These schools were mostly in areas of disadvantage. Although all the schools were unique there were some clear parallels between them. The webinar will outline what were they doing\, why they were doing it and the remarkable outcomes across the board – for kids\, teachers and families. Nothing was overly costly and everything was doable. Attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on what might be adopted in their settings and ask questions. We now need a similar project in the secondary sector! \nSPEAKER Dr Sue Roffey has been a teacher\, psychologist and academic. She is currently an honorary associate professor at UCL and director of Growing Great Schools Worldwide. Sue has written prolifically on aspects of wellbeing in education\, including behaviour\, relationships\, social-emotional learning and school culture. Sue worked on this project with Dominic Boddington MBE\, a secondary school teacher who set up Respect4Us to meet the needs of pupils excluded from mainstream schools in Norfolk. The book about the project\, Inspiring a Love of Learning: Exceptional Practice in Primary Schools will be published by Routledge in 2027.

SUMMARY:ACT for adolescents - A practical\, skills based introduction
DESCRIPTION:Cost + VAT \nThis 6-hour/2 session workshop introduces adaptions to ACT principles for young people (12-24) through the DNA-V framework — a developmental approach designed to meet their unique needs and enhance therapeutic outcomes. Blending theory with hands-on practice\, participants will gain tools to help teenagers and young clients navigate the challenges of self-identity\, emotions\, relationships\, and values. \nACT offers a strong foundation for building psychological flexibility\, and the DNA-V model (Discoverer\, Noticer\, Advisor\, Values) helps translate these processes into forms that resonate with young people. Together\, they provide a clear\, practical framework for supporting adolescents to move towards what matters. \nThis workshop is for psychologists\, counsellors\, social workers\, teachers\, and other professionals working with young people aged 12–24. It’s suitable for those new to ACT as well as those with some experience who want more practical ways to apply it with adolescents. No prior knowledge of DNA-V is needed. \nThe course is co-hosted by Duncan Gillard\, a HCPC-registered Senior Educational Psychologist and experienced ACT and DNA-V practitioner\, and Freddy Jackson Brown\, a HCPC-registered Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience working with children and families in the NHS. \nSession 1:\nWednesday 13th January 2027: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM \nSession 2:\nThursday 14th January 2027: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

SUMMARY:Coaching for Change
DESCRIPTION:If you want to…. \nLearn how to adapt your ‘helping’ approach depending on where the coaching participant (or another person you are helping on a change journey) is at in relation to their readiness for change. We will consider key factors that can facilitate or forestall a person’s change journey\, and plan how we can adapt our approach accordingly. We will also explore the concept of ‘resistance’ and how we can work with it if we encounter it. Suitable for all professionals who have an interest or investment in helping others to change.

SUMMARY:Residency webinar 7. Critiquing and considering alternatives to therapy
DESCRIPTION:A 10% discount when signing up to all 11 webinars\nBetween now and the 6th October (the date of the first webinar) you can benefit from a 10% discount when you sign up for all 11 webinars. \nRadical Psychology\, Real Change will be a monthly seminar series that attempts to address the problems outlined above by reviving the legacy of our radical forebears\, critiquing the false radicalism of current practice and presenting new ways of thinking in order to push for revolutionary new ways of thinking in the psychological professions\, so that as psychologists we can go out into the world and make real change. \nThis session will explore the ways in which therapy can be effective\, but also the problematic and damaging potential therapy has when centralising the individual. We will consider whether therapy can be understood as equally successful for all and then move towards considering more collective and material forms of alleviating mental distress.

SUMMARY:Residency webinar 9. Consultation and materialism: a critique and ideas for ways forward
\nConsultation is a centrepiece of educational psychology training and practice\, yet its theory of change is fundamentally flawed. It suggests that if we can change how someone thinks\, we might be able to change how they act. This session will argue that\, for consultation to be effective\, it needs to be used as a springboard into material change.

SUMMARY:Coaching Ethics & Supervision
DESCRIPTION:If you want to…. \nExplore important ethical considerations that guide the provision of coaching and coaching psychology services. Given the important role of supervision in supporting the ethical delivery of coaching/coaching psychology practice\, the session is also aimed at coaches/coaching psychologists/other applied psychologists who would like to experience/enhance the benefit they can gain from engaging in coaching supervision themselves\, and for those who are either providing or seeking to provide supervision to other coaches or coaching psychologists.

SUMMARY:Residency webinar 10. Assess the system not the child!: systems theory and systems change
\n‘Systems theory’ within our profession takes the starting point that everyone involved is on the same team\, it has no power analysis and it doesn’t really understand the logics by which systems work. This session will correct that and help us understand how systems maintain themselves and how they might be changed by those of us working in the caring professions. \nThe seminar series will be accessible to all psychologists\, at all levels of their career from training through to management. SUMMARY:Residency webinar 11. Towards activism\, protest\, hope and collective action in Educational Psychology
\nThe final session in the seminar series will be the most focused on political activism.
