SUMMARY:Inclusion Facilitation – the ideal follow up to person centred planning
DESCRIPTION:Delivered via Zoom Webinar \nInclusion Facilitation (IF) is an approach to enhancing the inclusion\, in a mainstream community of any child or young person who is experiencing difficulties in the world because of disability\, personal crisis or because of their challenging behaviour towards others. The IF approach works by mobilising the young person’s natural supports to provide support and engage with the person in difficulty. \nInclusion Facilitation is designed to create a better life for an individual by the provision of an intense input designed to bring about social change. This usually entails a series of visits focused on getting the person out and about to increase confidence\, social skills and presence in their local community and to pursue goals and dreams. Uniquely\, the work is carried out under the close clinical supervision of a practicing psychologist. \nInclusion values underpinning this work \n•The Intentional Building of Relationships –‘Inclusion Facilitation’ work as an example \n•Not doing it alone – The Importance of Teams in developing inclusive practice \n•Practical setting up and running of IF work \n•Lessons learned \n•Stories of IF work

SUMMARY:Movement differences - a fresh view on ADHD and ASC
DESCRIPTION:Delivered via Zoom Webinar \nUnderstanding movement differences in a non medical way can be key to understanding and including people who otherwise may seem very challenging and difficult. All people with autism\, labels of ADHD but also those with labels such as Tourettes have movement differences creating difficulties in: \n•Stopping\n•Starting\n•Switching\n•Combining\n•Continuing\n•Executing complex movements \nAll of us in the world moving around in human bodies experience difficulties in one or more of these areas. But some people have much greater issues – the volume has been turned up and the difficulty is much greater. In this workshop we will explore and understand these difficulties better… practical strategies can then follow.

SUMMARY:Understanding anxiety
DESCRIPTION:Delivered via Zoom Webinar \nIn this practical workshop session we will explore ways of including anxious children in mainstream schools and settings. The session will be values based and practical and will aim to allow the sharing of experiences and good practice as well as promoting innovative approaches to inclusion through the design of best practice. \nFamily perspectives and experiences will also be explored. This is not a ‘medical model’ day on anxiety. \nThe course answers the questions : \n•What is anxiety? \n•How do we go about including anxious children? \n•Can we understand more deeply what is going on underneath concerning behaviours?

SUMMARY:UCL Leading Edge Day 2020
DESCRIPTION:Psychological support following a disaster. The journey of recovery. Long and short term perspectives and responses\nTraumatic events such as the Grenfell Tower fire and the Manchester Arena attack devastate communities and put schools at the heart of efforts to provide short-term care and to support recovery. Psychological care in the immediate aftermath generally involves Educational Psychology Services\, and schools in an affected community can sometimes need to draw on psychological support and advice for years afterwards. \nThis Leading Edge Day will bring together psychologists who have worked with the short-term aftermath of trauma and traumatic events as well as taking a longer-term perspective\, together with researchers who have looked at the factors that can promote recovery. \nThe morning will consider responses to large-scale incidents that affect whole communities and will provide an opportunity to hear about research that is extending and refining what we know about psychological growth after trauma. During the afternoon\, we will hear from practitioner EPs about their work with schools\, both in the immediate aftermath of critical incidents and in supporting students who have experienced trauma. Finally\, we will hear about some new research\, exploring teacher perceptions of EP support for schools after a crisis.

SUMMARY:The Sandwell well-being charter mark and whole school approach to well-being
DESCRIPTION:This training will provide you with everything your service needs to run the Charter Mark in your area. \nThis action research process supports schools to identify and develop good practice in the area of emotional well-being.  You will be trained in how to undertake the audit process and in how to support schools to co-construct a personalised action plan based on their data.  The Charter Mark is underpinned by Public Health research highlighting the range of factors that promote  emotional well-being in schools (PHE\, 2015). The Charter Mark reflects positive psychology and community psychology principles relating to mental health and well-being. You will be introduced to the new primary school curriculum; this has been developed to  support schools to successfully promote the development of psychological skills that are linked to emotional well-being in children. You will also be introduced to the well-being screening tool that we have developed as part of the whole-school approach.  This can be used to measure the well-being of individual children or groups of children.

SUMMARY:How Monsters Wish to Feel: Nurturing resilience in vulnerable children
DESCRIPTION:Cost plus Eventbrite fee \nThis interactive training workshop will enable attendees to gain an understanding of how to nurture the resilience of vulnerable children.  The course will cover:  definitions of resilience\, why resilience is so important\, the science of resilience\, and how resilience is built. \nJuliette will discuss the main ideas from her book ‘Nurturing Emotional Resilience in Vulnerable Children and Young People: A Practical Guide’. SUMMARY:Mental health and wellbeing in education: How can we respond?
DESCRIPTION:Over the last few years\, concerns about the mental health of students have been raised extensively by the media. Most educators in psychology recognise that our students sometimes struggle with their mental health. This timely workshop provides educators in higher education and pre-university teachers with an opportunity to discuss and share practice. \nThe day will include discussions of Mental Health First Aid training in universities and schools\, and will explore other initiatives that have been employed to support students’ mental health. \nWe know that our students are part of a wider community\, and it is important to open up the conversation across society. In the afternoon we welcome bestselling author Dr Dean Burnett\, who will be talking about having wider discussions about Mental Health\, including what he has learned from publishing his recent book aimed at teenagers “Why Your Parents Are Driving You Up the Wall and What To Do About It” and new audio book “Psycho-Logical!” and how he has approached writing about mental health for general public. \nWe anticipate that workshop participants will leave with ideas for how to adapt their own practice to promote good mental health and wellbeing among their students.

SUMMARY:“Race” and Culture – Belonging within Educational Psychology
DESCRIPTION:Training and working as an Educational Psychologist (EP) is a challenging journey. In addition to academic and work demands\, Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) individuals may face an additional challenge of trying to fit in with others with the service or the course. A sense of belonging to the EP team or training course is important for the mental health and wellbeing of the TEP/EP. There are a number of different factors that may influence the sense of belonging for a trainee or an EP. One aspect is their relationship with their supervisor and the supervisee-supervisor relationship. \nThe aim of this session would be to consider the impact of supervisory relationship experiences of TEPs and EPs from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Communities. This may include discussions on: \nDeveloping and understanding of how BAME TEPs/EPs see themselves.  \nReflecting on what is impact for Educational Psychologists in supervision.  \nUnderstanding Educational Psychologist cultural identity and self-reflection. \nConsidering the ways forward in making supervision culturally responsive. \nRoom 206 (2nd Floor)
