SUMMARY:Using the SCERTS framework to guide priorities for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
DESCRIPTION:This course will provide an overview of the SCERTS framework\, a comprehensive\, multidisciplinary educational approach designed for children with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC).  This model is not exclusive of other approaches and methodologies\, but rather provides a framework for those who are seeking guidelines for implementing a comprehensive educational plan that is based on our knowledge of the core developmental challenges faced by children with ASC and their family. Guidelines for helping children progress through the stages of becoming a competent social communicator will be provided\, along with strategies for determining meaningful\, purposeful\, and motivating goals based upon a child’s developmental stage and family priorities. \nDay 1 is for any professionals who are interested in supporting children and young people with ASC in a child and family centered way who want to use an up to date and excellent model of practice which can be tailored to a child or young person’s particular needs and styles of learning. \nDay 2 builds upon day 1 and is focused on identifying essential environmental supports for each development stage (before words\, emerging language\, and conversational stages)\, developing an action plan and implementing SCERTS.  Case studies will be reviewed to practice assessment\, writing goals and designing interventions. \nDay 2 attendance is for professionals who plan and deliver interventions for children and young people. \nDay 1&2   £260\, Day 1 only £150
