SUMMARY:The Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework (SAAF)
DESCRIPTION:Cost plus VAT. \nThis virtual masterclass\, facilitated by Fay Berry and Stephen Pizzey\, explores decision making in complex child protection and safeguarding cases using the Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework (SAAF). \nThe Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework (Pizzey\, Bentovim\, Cox\, Bingley Miller and Tapp\, 2016) was designed to help professionals make an analysis of the level of harm suffered or likely to be suffered by the child; the risks of re-abuse or likelihood of future harm; and the prospects for successful intervention in cases that social workers find complex. The SAAF provides a systematic\, robust\, evidence-based and time-efficient model and a range of methods for assessing\, analysing and making decisions in the safeguarding context. The Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework focuses on analysis and decision-making and enables practitioners to evidence the rationale underpinning their recommendations and decisions to their managers and the courts. \n20% discount available quoting hcuk20edpsy

SUMMARY:Education Futures in Action: Introduction
DESCRIPTION:Education Futures in Action is a partnership between States of Mind and the Institute of Education\, University College London. Our July conference will show how the English education system impacts young people and present actionable alternatives to the educational status quo. \nTalks will be led by a range of education innovators from home and abroad\, including young people\, teachers\, academics and other change makers. Some are innovating within the current school system\, others are re-envisioning and enacting ways of educating that promote consent\, democracy\, self-determination and the celebration of diversity. Evidence is clear: the English education system is underpinned by ideologies that promote coercion\, standardisation and segregation. This conference will show how it is possible to do things differently. \nFrom Autumn 2021\, States of Mind will be chairing a regular Education Futures roundtable\, with the aim of drawing together practitioners with the knowledge\, skills and experience to co-create an alternative future for education. Please join us for the July conference and take part in this movement.

SUMMARY:UCL DEdPsy Leading Edge Day 2021 : Equality\, diversity and inclusion; working towards anti-racist EP practice
DESCRIPTION:In March 2020\, the world as we knew it changed. The death of George Floyd triggered widespread reflection\, and action in recognition of structural racism across our society. March also saw the UK’s first national lockdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic which\, in turn\, brought into sharp focus the social inequalities present in our society (Marmot et al.\, 2010\, 2020). Since then\, debates have been ongoing across international contexts\, across professions\, within psychology and within educational psychology regarding where we are and where we want and need to be in the future. This online conference will contribute to debates already ongoing around racism and ethnicity in educational psychology and will provide participants with a chance to hear about theory and research and to focus on challenges\, as well as future directions. In addition\, in the afternoon participants will be able to attend two workshops out of a choice of four presented by educational psychologists engaged in research and practice in this area.

SUMMARY:REACH Train the Trainer course
DESCRIPTION:This course is specifically a ‘train the trainer’ course for Educational Psychologists who would like to deliver the REACH course in their area. Once EPs have attended the six modules of this REACH training course\, all materials are then freely available to enable course delivery in their area. Six modules over six days: 3/8/21; 4/8/21; 10/8/21; 11/8/21; 31/8/21; 1/9/21 \nThe REACH Course is an educational psychologist developed and led learning curriculum\, equipping practitioners with the psychological knowledge and skills they require to embed effective trauma informed\, resiliency enabling approaches in their schools and settings. \nDelivered in six ‘bite-size’ modules\, REACH teaches 100 different learning objectives relating to the key knowledge and skills needed to develop an awareness not only of adversity and trauma\, but also of the approaches that are vital in supporting young people to do well\, despite their risk factors. \nIn particular\, the course explores the five ‘Roots of Resilience’ – and numerous associated research-based protective factors – that we can help vulnerable children to tap into\, in order to maintain their strength and stability during adverse events\, nourishing them from the inside out. \nThese protective factors are ‘positive childhood experiences’ (PCEs) that can mitigate the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and foster the resilience of children affected by adversity. The course also teaches simple trauma informed techniques for addressing the often-hidden effects of trauma and toxic stress. \nBecause we know that stable and supportive relationships are the golden thread – or ‘ordinary magic’ (Masten\, 2001) – running through research into what buffers us from risk\, there is a strong emphasis on the importance of nurturing and attuned relationships for resilience in the REACH training course. The course also emphasises the importance of developing a strong sense of self.

SUMMARY:Decision making using the Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework
DESCRIPTION:This virtual masterclass\, facilitated by Fay Berry and Stephen Pizzey\, explores decision making in complex child protection and safeguarding cases using the Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework (SAAF). \nExperienced professionals with responsibility for making or contributing to assessments of children and families where there are ongoing safeguarding concerns\, including staff in children’s social care\, CAMHS\, health\, education\, police\, probation\, expert witnesses\, children’s guardians and independent social workers should attend this masterclass. \nHCUK offer a 20% discount with code hcuk20EDPSY
