SUMMARY:Executive Functions: Connecting into practice - online course for Educational Psychologists

She has a wealth of experience working with executive functioning issues in school casework and is excited to be sharing her knowledge and understanding in this area. \nThe Executive Functions: Connecting into Practice CPD course is in an eLearning format which can be taken at your own pace\, and used as a reference guide to come back to over time. Each module encompasses a series of subchapters\, containing short animated videos\, links and resources\, which you can view at your own pace. \n• Content Packed: Defining what we mean by executive functions at different levels of specificity\, and understanding how those functions typically develop in children\, leads us on to how we can assess those skills in individual children. You won’t need to rush out and buy lots of expensive equipment – Dr Rebecca Ashton explains how you can gather data about executive functioning in a range of ways and bring it together in a coherent formulation. The course then goes on to get you thinking about how you talk about executive functions within consultations\, in order to come to a shared understanding about areas of strength and need. And\, of course\, we will talk about interventions that might feed into your action planning. \n• Assessments: There are a range of observational\, informal and standardised assessment approaches we look at in the course\, including a number of ideas and resources that can be utilised directly from your psychological toolkit. \n• Strategies: A detailed look at a range of evidence-based and practice-based strategies and interventions\, alongside practical ideas on how we can talk about Executive Functions with consultations to gain a shared understanding and jointly formulate helpful accommodations and interventions.

SUMMARY:Dr Karen Treisman: Inter-\, trans- and multi-generational trauma\, loss & wisdom
DESCRIPTION:Cost plus VAT. \nA brilliant new day with Karen that focuses on some of the less frequently explored areas of trauma : inter-\, trans-\, and multigenerational as well as inherited and historical trauma will all be considered. This day can be attended as a stand alone session or it can be paired with a second new day with Karen in October 2024 on Organisational Trauma. \nContent Summary: \nTrauma is an umbrella and broad term\, and we often focus in services around certain types of traumas; but the crucial area of intergenerational\, multigenerational\, transgenerational\, inherited\, and historical trauma is often less acknowledged or spoken about. \nThis day has a spotlight on intergenerational trauma at a collective\, community\, and society level such as within the context of genocide\, war\, and political oppression as well as exploring the concept and experience of intergenerational trauma within a family and parenting context. \nThis day is not focused on how to treat or intervene directly with intergenerational trauma (that is far beyond the breadth of a day and is multi layered with multiple different approaches which might be used) but rather intended to raise curiosity\, awareness\, understanding\, and knowledge as to what it is\, how it can show itself\, how it can be transferred\, some of the common patterns and themes\, and why it is important to consider. \nThis day will support attendees to increase their knowledge and awareness in this area and give them more confidence when discussing it with people as well as honouring and respecting its presence and legacy. There will also be an acknowledgment around some of the critiques around and limitations of the field of intergenerational trauma. \nWe will also share different terms and ways of describing intergenerational trauma. There will be some examples of interweaving this understanding into tools such as a cultural genogram. \nWe will also discuss some of the aspects of intergenerational hope\, wisdom\, and of community and collective care. \nDelivery Style: \nThere will be a combination of lecture style\, small group discussions\, analogies\, metaphors\, props\, and interactive exercises.

SUMMARY:Neil Young: Gender & sexuality - working with LGBTQ children & young people
DESCRIPTION:Cost plus VAT. \nA Day with Neil Young \nAs part of Pride month\, this is an inspiring and insightful day of exploration\, reflection\, discussion and learning with the brilliant Neil Young\, which will include time for discussion\, self-reflection and awareness\, and opportunities for creativity and private art-making. \nContent Summary \nGender and sexual identity are lenses through which all of us are constantly negotiating our place and meaning in the world\, against a background of powerful binaries and stereotypes\, most notably male/female and gay/straight. Yet\, in recent years there has been a sea change amongst teenagers and young adults\, who are increasingly resisting traditional\, binary gender identities and not defining themselves as heterosexual. \nIn this day-long session\, the group will explore our response to this generational shift by focusing on ourselves – connecting to our own feelings\, thoughts and experiences. We will also examine the reality of lesbian\, gay\, bi\, trans\, queer (LGBTQ+) and gender-fluid children and young peoples’ lives\, including emergent gender and sexual identities\, impact on attachment\, discrimination\, coping strategies and their implications for us in our professional practice. \nNeil will offer up a space for small and whole group discussion\, share contemporary research\, media and resources as well as using the creative arts* to help our exploration and practice. \n*Creative Arts: \nBefore we meet\, do gather whatever art materials (paint\, crayons\, stickers\, postcards\, loo roll holders\, toys\, leaves – whatever you have\, like or can get your hands on) as we will be creating during the session. \nParticipants will be given the opportunity to: \n• Examine the reality of LGBTQ children and young peoples’ lives\, including emergent gender and sexual identities\, discrimination\, coping strategies and their implications for us as professionals and organisations. \n• Creatively explore anti-LGBTQ prejudice within your work and wider society \n• Connect to their own experiences of gender and sexuality and how these has impacted on who they are\, personally and professionally \n• Consider developmentally helpful approaches to working with children and young people\, including creativity and the arts. \n• Understand the importance of a secure attachment in the developing child and how the absence of this for many LGBTQ and gender-fluid children and young people can have long-lasting impacts on their quality of life \n• Explore the fluidity of sexual and gender identity formation and the enduring power of binary gender and sexual identities and dominant stereotypical roles.
