SUMMARY:NFCDS annual lecture: Disabled people and climate change
DESCRIPTION:Climate change poses major risks to human health and livelihoods\, in ways that are compounding and creating new forms of health inequality. Disabled people – including 15% of the global population – are disproportionately exposed to these risks\, experiencing higher injury and death rates and fewer opportunities to influence climate policy or action. By homogenising disabled people as climate ‘victims’\, current efforts to tackle these inequalities largely fail to address the social\, cultural and political conditions that exacerbate such risks. The first presentation will reflect on how disability has been positioned within climate change scholarship to-date\, before considering opportunities to harness climate action to create more inclusive\, liveable places where disabled people can thrive and flourish in our ever-changing world. The second presentation will outline how Bristol is including disabled people in climate change discussions\, and how the city is taking measures to address the climate emergency\, particularly in relation to disabled people.

SUMMARY:Trauma Informed Practice: Assessing for Recovery Conference
DESCRIPTION:Early bird tickets are £70 and available until 14th October \nJoin The Mulberry Bush & The Institute of Recovery from Childhood Trauma for this two day conference where we will be presenting four assessment models for progress towards recovery from trauma. \nOver the past 20 years\, ‘trauma-informed’ approaches have become increasingly popular as a means for reducing the negative impact of childhood adversities and supporting child and adult mental health outcomes. These approaches are informed by a set of principles that recognise that experiences of trauma are prevalent and can negatively impact the daily functioning of many individuals. This awareness is then assumed to help practitioners offer services that are more welcoming and less likely to inadvertently re-traumatise service users. Examples of common trauma- informed activities include trauma-awareness training\, trauma screening and service redesigns aimed at addressing the impact of trauma on individuals. Trauma informed principles have also more recently begun to be adopted by schools\, the police and other frontline services to improve service quality more generally. \nStudies show that practitioners are often quite enthusiastic about trauma-informed principles and believe that awareness of them will substantially improve their ability to engage clients and help them. However\, studies also show that there is a notable lack of consistency in how trauma-informed principles are applied in practice and their value to practitioners and clients is yet to be rigorously evaluated. \nThis conference will present four assessment models for assessing progress towards recovery from trauma developed by practitioners working with children who have experienced complex trauma. It will enable participants to compare and contrast the approaches and look for commonalities as well as providing an opportunity to explore each in more depth and apply the principles to their own work. \nDuring this event – Learning objectives;\n\nTo learn about some of the existing assessment approaches available for assessing the efficacy of trauma informed practice aimed at promoting recovery\nTo discover the basic ingredients of Trauma Informed Practice required to promote recovery\nTo gain experience in developing a ‘theory of change’ to guide your practice delivery model\nTo gather ideas about how to build in an evaluation of your own services to be able to demonstrate that what you are doing works.

SUMMARY:Introduction to projective assessment in EP practice: Sentence completion tasks
DESCRIPTION:Projective techniques are powerful tools to gain the voice of the child and explore aspects of their experience that may not be well understood. When carefully analysed and triangulated with other sources of information\, projective techniques can open up conversations with children\, families and staff that can facilitate deep understanding of difficulties\, and help to create change. \nThe Course\n£90 per session\, £425 for the whole course \nThis course will provide an introduction to techniques and resources that can be easily incorporated into EP work. Attendees will have opportunities for reflective peer supervision and develop their skills in administrating\, analysing\, feeding back and reporting on projective material. \nThe course is made up of 7 sessions. The greatest benefit will come from attending the course as a whole\, but there are limited tickets available for individual sessions. \nAll sessions will take place on Tuesdays from 6-8pm via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. \n\nSentence completion tasks 22nd November 2022\nHouse\, tree\, person 24th January 2023\nKinetic family drawing 28th February 2023\nChildren’s apperception test 9th May 2023\nObject relations technique 13th June 2023\nProjective workshop (group to choose) 4th July 2023\nOptional: introduction to the Rorschach 21st March 2023\n\nLearning objectives:\n\nTo provide an introduction to the history of the test and how it is used.\nTo explore administration of the test.\nTo develop an understanding of approaches to analysis of the test.\nTo develop confidence in the analysis of the test through practice and reflective peer supervision of a live case. Participants are encouraged to try out the test and bring material to the session. It is hoped that each person will have an opportunity to present material throughout the course.

It also includes a host of useful resources which can be utilised in your practice\, reflective activities to facilitate your learning\, and a space for the EP community to ask questions and share thoughts between us.

SUMMARY:EP Reach-Out webinar - Adolescents’ views on CBT: What works and what doesn’t? with Dr James Redburn

I conducted a systematic review exploring how adolescents conceptualise ‘positive outcomes’ from CBT and what they consider to be the facilitators and barriers to such outcomes. In this webinar\, I will overview the results of the review and provide practice recommendations based on the views of adolescents as experts by experience.

SUMMARY:Post pandemic anxiety in autistic children and young people
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic caused massive disruption to all our lives This has had a particular impact on the lives of Autistic children and young people (CYP). As things return to a ‘new normal’\, many educationalists and parents are reporting that there continue to be major concerns about Autistic CYP in terms of emotional well-being\, high anxiety levels\, non-attendance\, educational progress and the well-being of school staff. \nThis online Study Morning has been organised by the Educational Psychology Autism Special Interest Group (EP-ASIG). The keynote speaker is Professor Liz Pellicano\, University College London\, whose research has sought to understand and investigate the perspectives and experiences of al group of Australian children and their parents and to consider how some of the more positive aspects of the experience might inform a way forward for those working with such CYP. \nLiz will talk about research on the experiences of Autistic students and parental experiences during the pandemic and there will be an opportunity for questions.

SUMMARY:Introduction to projective assessment in EP practice: House\, person\, tree technique
\nThis course will provide an introduction to techniques and resources that can be easily incorporated into EP work. Attendees will have opportunities for reflective peer supervision and develop their skills in administrating\, analysing\, feeding back and reporting on projective material. \nLearning Objectives:\nTo provide an introduction to the history of the test and how it is used.\nTo explore administration of the test.\nTo develop an understanding of approaches to analysis of the test.\nTo develop confidence in the analysis of the test through practice and reflective peer supervision of a live case. Participants are encouraged to try out the test and bring material to the session. It is hoped that each person will have an opportunity to present material throughout the course.
