SUMMARY:Compassionate co-regulation to reduce anxiety in children\, young people and adults with Jyoti Manuel
DESCRIPTION:As care-givers we underestimate the impact and importance of our state of being for the children and young people around us\, whether we are an educator\, parent or therapist. We are so busy trying to make everything right for them\, often creating a hugely anxious state in ourselves trying to control the impossible. However when we are calm and regulated there is an unspoken communication circle of safety and care. From there everyone can thrive. \n

SUMMARY:How are parenting practices associated with bullying in adolescents?
DESCRIPTION:ACAMH’s vision is to be ‘sharing best evidence\, improving practice’\, to this end in December 2020 we launched ‘CAMHS around the Campfire’\, a free monthly virtual journal club\, run in conjunction with André Tomlin. \nEach 1-hour meeting features a new piece of research\, which we discuss in an informal journal club session. The focus is on critical appraisal of the research and implications for practice. Primarily targeted at CAMHS practitioners\, and researchers\, ‘CAMHS around the Campfire’ will be publicly accessible\, free to attend\, and relevant to a wider audience. \n\n\n\n\n\nFor this session we are pleased to welcome Dr. Ana Pascual-Sanchez\, Faculty of Medicine\, Department of Brain Sciences\, Imperial College London\,to discuss her CAMH paper ‘How are parenting practices associated with bullying in adolescents? A cross-sectional study’. \n\n \n\n\n\n\nA panel\, comprising paper author Dr. Ana Pascual-Sanchez\, Imperial College London\, Associate Professor of Experimental Psychology Lucy Bowes\, University Oxford\, and a lived experience perspective from the McPin Foundation\, will discuss the research and its implications with information scientist Douglas Badenoch. This discussion will be facilitated by Andre Tomlin (@Mental_Elf).

SUMMARY:‘Beyond the Medical’- The school experiences of young people with a chronic health condition with Dr Sarah Lakeman
DESCRIPTION:Following on from Lauren Baggley and Erika Payne’s research presentations which also explore the impact of attending school with a chronic health condition\, Sarah Lakeman (a newly qualified EP) presents her thesis research\, an IPA study which explores the school experiences of five young people with a chronic health condition. Sarah will explore the key themes arising from the research\, which extend beyond the purely ‘medical’. She will then describe how the themes were linked to Self Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci\, 2017) to the create a reflective framework which demonstrates how the three basic psychological needs; autonomy\, relatedness and competence were met or frustrated for the young people in the study. Finally she will consider how this framework could be further developed to help school staff gain a greater awareness of the broader psychosocial impacts of having a chronic health condition at school\, promote person-centred planning and support the development of holistic and bespoke support for this cohort of young people.
