SUMMARY:Executive functions: connecting into practice
DESCRIPTION:The course will guide you through the layers of understanding the concept of executive functions\, how we assess those skills and bring it together in a formulation that makes sense. \n*To find out more and book\, visit: www.edpsyched.co.uk/executive-functions. Sign up to hear about our exclusive pre-launch discount – there are also discounts for TEPs. \nThe course lead Dr Rebecca Ashton is an experienced educational psychologist working in neuropsychology.  She has a wealth of experience working with executive functioning issues in school casework and is excited to be sharing her knowledge and understanding in this area. \nThe course is in an eLearning format which can be taken at your own pace (goes live on the 17th January but does not need to be competed on this date)\, and used as a reference guide to come back to over time. It also includes a host of useful resources which can be utilised in your practice\, reflective activities to facilitate your learning\, and a space for the EP community to ask questions and share thoughts between us. \nWhat is included? \n\nTraining: The course is in eLearning format\, broken down into six core chapters to increase knowledge and skills across key areas relating to executive functions and our role as an Educational Psychologist. Each core module encompasses a series of subchapters\, containing short animated videos\, which you can view at your own pace.\nContent Packed: Defining what we mean by executive functions at different levels of specificity\, and understanding how those functions develop in typical children\, leads us on to how we can assess those skills in individual children.  You won’t need to rush out and buy lots of expensive equipment – Dr Rebecca Ashton will explain how you can gather data about executive functioning in a range of ways and bring it together in a coherent formulation.  The course will go on to get you thinking about how you talk and listen with others\, in order to come to a shared understanding about executive functions.  And\, of course\, we will talk about interventions that might feed into your action planning.\nAssessments: There are a range of observational\, informal and standardised assessment approaches we look at in the course\, including a number of ideas and resources that can be utilised directly from your psychological toolkit.\nStrategies: A detailed look at a range of evidence-based and practice-based strategies and interventions\, alongside practical ideas on how we can talk about Executive Functions with consultations to gain a shared understanding and jointly formulate helpful accommodations and interventions.

SUMMARY:The Psychologically Flexible School: A Whole Community Approach to Wellbeing in Education with Dr. Duncan Gillard
DESCRIPTION:This 30 minute webinar explores the value of a whole-school approach to wellbeing\, describing one example of a framework for enabling such a systems-wide approach. The session explores the various ways in which the term wellbeing can be defined\, making the case that a clearly explicated and workable definition of wellbeing is essential if we are to make meaningful progress toward improved mental health and wellbeing for a school community. We will then explore the conception of wellbeing adopted by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and allied models\, which emphases connection with personal value\, values-based action and flexibly and openly relating to our inner world – to our thoughts\, emotions and sensations. Finally\, the session outlines a wide range of ways in which approaches based on Psychological Flexibility can be applied to promote and improve the wellbeing of children\, school staff and parents and to promote whole-school community cohesion and belongingness. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Equity in Education for children with medical needs with Stephen Lowe (Headteacher Oxfordshire Hospital School)
DESCRIPTION:The barriers are not in the abilities of our pupils\, but in the disparate opportunities they are afforded by the impact of their medical condition. Pupils with medical conditions are likely to be victims of an education opportunity gap which is unfair and far from inclusive. Pupils who miss the most education require more support and resources than their peers to succeed. This webinar offers professionals practical solutions. \nRegister here
