SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing Skills Club for EPs (MISC)
DESCRIPTION:MI Skills Club (MISC) is a free community group for Educational Psychologists wishing to practise their Motivational Interviewing skills. \nIf you have already undertaken some training in Motivational Interviewing (at least half a day)\, you are welcome to join our MI Skills Club (MISC)\, which is a free community group for Educational Psychologists wishing to practise their MI skills within a small and friendly group. \nBecause MI is a conversational style\, rather than a discrete skill\, it is not something that can be mastered by attending a one-off training session. While MI is a learnable approach\, it takes practice\, reflection and supervision to improve. Learning MI on your own is hard\, and receiving objective feedback and expert feedback are helpful in developing and maintaining competence in MI (Miller & Rollnick\, 2023). \nCathy Atkinson and Fi Coley\, who are both members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)\, are collaborating to build an MI Learning Community for EPs. MINT (2019) defines a learning community as a network of practitioners interested in the same topic\, and the community can serve as both a resource and a forum for developing practice. \nIn each 90-minute online session we will focus on one small aspect of MI (micro-skills practice) and use breakout rooms with small groups to practice skills and give /receive supportive feedback. \nThis event is open to Educational Psychologists\, Trainee Educational Psychologists\, and Assistant Psychologists. We are unable to accommodate aspiring EPs at this event.

SUMMARY:EPs for Material Change: Community Learning Day
DESCRIPTION:Exploring inequality\, psychology and making change.\nEducational Psychologists for Material Change (EPMC) welcomes you to our online event exploring inequality\, psychology and making change. \nEPMC believe that inequality is not accidental; it is produced and reproduced by the systems we live and work within. To end inequality\, material change is needed: a redistribution of wealth\, resources\, and power across society. \nThis virtual Community Learning Day (9 January 2026) invites psychologists to come together to explore the intersections between inequality and psychology. Through dialogue\, critical reflection\, and collective learning\, we will consider how our profession can contribute to genuine social transformation. \nSpeakers (TBC) will include psychologists\, those in education\, and those with lived experience of inequality in all its forms. We are particularly committed to centring marginalised voices and building spaces of solidarity. \nA community event\nThis is a DIY event\, hosted by EPMC without support or funding. The event is based on 3 fundamental principles. \n\nAccessibility for all\nSpeakers are paid for their time\nEquity over equality – giving according to ability\, receiving according to need\n\nTo honour these principles\, the event operates on a “pay what you can” model\, with suggested donations. \n\n£0 – For those facing financial difficulty (we do not want you to donate to the event\, even if you feel compelled to).\n£20 – For those in stable employment (e.g. you are a qualified EP or worker in secure employment)\n£50+ – For those with significant financial security or wealth (e.g you have significant savings/inherited wealth).\n\nWe hope that those who can afford to pay do so\, to enable those who can’t afford to attend for free and support the fair payment of speakers. \nFunds will be transparently managed through Open Collective\, ensuring all income goes directly toward paying speakers and keeping the event cost-neutral. A full financial breakdown will be published after the event. \nJoin us as we reflect\, organise\, and imagine what it means to move beyond awareness toward material change

SUMMARY:EP Reach-Out webinar - Book launch for Reimagining Education - Hearing children’s voices to design schools where all belong
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join the authors of Reimaging Education – Maddi Popoola\, Sarah Sivers and Louise McDonagh – to celebrate the publication of their book.\nMaddi\, Sarah and Louise will share the inspiration for writing Reimagining Education and provide a summary of the topics covered. \nDrawing from relational and trauma-informed approaches\, Reimagining Education explores ways to design and sustain a successful school system\, through the eyes and experiences of children and young people. \nChapters consider a range of themes\, from mentally healthy schools to attendance and academic pressure\, to build the vision of a compassionate school where no child is left behind or excluded. Each topic is introduced through the voices and views of children\, who reflect on their experiences and tell us what would make it better and create a sense of belonging for all. These themes are explored alongside key psychological theory\, before accessible strategies and recommendations for change are introduced. \nCentring the views of children and young people\, this essential guide focuses on developing an education system fit for the workforce of the future\, based on skills\, humanity\, compassion and citizenship. \nhttps://www.routledge.com/Reimagining-Education-Hearing-Childrens-Voices-to-Design-Schools-Where-All-Belong/Popoola-Sivers-McDonagh/p/book/9781032980638 [Use discount code 25ESE4 to save 20%]

SUMMARY:EP Inclusion Community (EPIC)
DESCRIPTION:The EP Inclusion Community (EPIC) is a newly set up free group for all in the Educational Psychology community with an interest in the EP role in supporting\, promoting and developing inclusive practice in schools. \nThe aim of the group is to promote the role of EPs in supporting inclusive practice and to consider strategies to enhance the EP voice in discussions around inclusion in schools. \nAli Carr is a Specialist EP for Inclusion and Belonging\, and the creator of the BASE Model of Inclusion (Belonging and relationships\, Autonomy\, Sense of Safety\, Equity). The BASE model provides a holistic and evidence-based framework centered around the concept of the school as an inclusive ‘base’ for the whole school community. \nThis 90-minute online session is the first session of this newly created interest group\, which is open to all within the EP community. It is planned for the end of January 2026 in anticipation of the release of the SEND White Paper during the month of January\, which is likely to place new emphasis on inclusion\, belonging\, and equity in schools. This session will consider how EPs can be fully involved in this process and will consider next steps for the group. \nThis group is open to all Educational Psychologists\, Trainee Educational Psychologists\, and Assistant Educational Psychologists.
