Reed Webinar Series: Promoting belonging for refugee children

13/02/2025 - 15:30 to 17:00

Free

This presentation explores the critical issue of school belonging for refugee children, with a focus on how Educational Psychologists (EPs) and school professionals can support these children and their families. With increasing numbers of refugee and asylum-seeking children in the UK, many face unique challenges such as trauma, language barriers, and cultural adjustment. A sense of belonging is crucial for their emotional wellbeing, social integration, and academic success. We’ll examine current research on school belonging, practical examples of EP engagement with refugee groups, and discuss ethical considerations when supporting refugee children. By the end of the session, participants will gain insights into how they can help create inclusive, supportive school environments that foster a sense of belonging for refugee children and their families.
