Influencing policy: an introduction for psychologists

Many psychologists aspire to influence policy. With extensive research experience and valuable real-world knowledge from practice it can be tricky to understand why policy professionals don’t draw on the skills of psychologists to a greater extent. Knowing how to engage with and influence the policy process is often the missing link.

There’s also a temptation to see policy influence simply as something that happens at the level of national government, but psychologists can and should use their skills to influence policy and the organisational and local level too.
