EP Reach-Out webinar – Action Research: How can we develop our own professional practice? with Dr Jamie Allen
- This event has passed.
I will be discussing my doctoral research which I completed in the summer of 2022. It was an action research project which looked at my development as an Educational Psychologist (EP) through ten action research cycles. The work that I conducted was supporting a school to develop their restorative approaches through the five core areas of educational psychology practice (assessment, consultation, intervention, training, and research).
I used a reflective framework (Giles et al., 2023) to critically reflect on my practice, and I adapted McNiff and Whitehead’s (2011) action research cycle to track and highlight my development as an EP. This, in turn, allowed me to develop a living educational theory that will remain with me for as long as I am practicing.
I wish to highlight the importance of the restorative approach, and the EP role in supporting that alongside the importance of engaging in action research, and the appropriateness of the methodology within the EP profession.
