Join Learning & Wellbeing Psychology and Dr Amy Such, one of the authors of the resource ‘The Wellbeing Toolkit for Mental Health Leads’, for our popular one-day training.
The new role of the Mental Health Lead opens up exciting opportunities for transforming our children’s mental health and the wellbeing of the education workforce. Mental Health Leads will champion the latest mental health and wellbeing knowledge, training and approaches and become the vital link between the school, families and the wider education and healthcare system.
By attending this course you will:
- have a clear idea about how to get started in your new role, including working out your systems of support, getting to know your school system and auditing what you are doing already
- feel confident with assessment and identification processes, including establishing an identification framework, screening to identify potential difficulties, the need for more detailed assessments, staff training and onward referrals
- understand how to support Children & Young People through grief and loss, including knowing different theories of grief and loss, knowing how children understand death developmentally, considering the impact of death by suicide and ways of being available to them so they can talk about what is happening
- know the evidence for mindfulness-based stress reduction and some mindfulness activities
- start the process of critical thinking about current issues in mental health, such as the controversy about the role of diagnosis in mental health.
