This session will explore the question of why some groups of children and young people are consistently referred for EP support more than other groups, and whether this is fair. Following an outline of existing literature, I will present the results of a small-scale research project in a local authority.

The aim of this research was to explore the question; How do parents experience the role of advocating for their child’s Autism assessment? Parents were recognised as narrators rather than participants as a narrative thematic analysis approach was adopted. Sub themes related to advocating include; challenging professionals/systems fight waiting concern dismissed education/experience and evidence
