Dr Cathy Atkinson is an EP and curriculum director of the Doctoral in Educational and Child Psychology Programme at the University of Manchester. Cathy has a long standing interest in motivational interviewing (MI) and has also completed both her masters and doctoral level research in this areas. She has published a number of articles and resources for MI.
This is an experiential course which aims to:
- Develop knowledge an understanding of motivational interviewing and the key elements of the approach
- Develop skills to be able to use motivational interviewing in consultations with parents/carers and school staff
- Develop skills to be able to use motivational interviewing in a therapeutic way with children and young people
- Provide opportunity to practice motivational interviewing approaches
