Reed Webinar Series: Challenges facing Educational Psychologists today – a Canadian perspective

Educational Psychologists, indeed all of the “helping professions”, are feeling the impact of increasingly polarizing political climates – locally, nationally and internationally. This CPD will review the challenges facing society at large, educational institutions and the professional associations, making it more and more difficult to ensure equitable practice grounded in evidence based research.

This session will explore the similarities and differences between the Canadian and UK systems, as well as the increasing disconnect between the need for ensuring psychological safety for all students, educators and families, and the realities that exist when trained professionals, in their desire to do the right thing, may inadvertently become part of the problem, rather than the solution.

The session will discuss various strategies used in Canada to attempt the bridge the gaps between theory, policies and practice. It will examine some best practices in the Canadian system, and encourage discussion of how to implement current best practices in both jurisdictions, in spite of the challenges that face educational psychologists today worldwide.
