‘A glaring gap’: Advancing the outcomes for adolescents with health-related needs through collaboration with Dr Erika Payne
- This event has passed.
Research shows that poor health during adolescence can negatively impact educational and vocational outcomes. Although legislation, such as the Equality Act, or the Statutory Guidance for Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions in Schools, aim to protect the rights of this vulnerable population, implementation remains a challenge. Erika (newly qualified EP) will look at some gaps in practice as well as areas of good practice. Additionally, we will reflect on moving away from a medical perspective towards a more holistic approach to support students with long-term health conditions.
Audience: educational psychologists, teachers, named medical lead in schools, school nurses, school staff working with pupils with health-related needs, SENCOs, healthcare professionals.
