News: The AEP elects a new General Secretary

Donna Wiggett has been elected General Secretary of the Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP) and will take up the role over the coming months.
Donna is a Senior EP in the Education Authority in Northern Ireland. She has worked on the AEP National Executive Committee over the past four years and worked with higher education partners on the development of education and training for the profession.
Commenting on her election, Donna said:
It is a huge honour to be given the mandate to lead the AEP. It is my conviction that psychology, applied with compassion and rigour, can change lives. The expectations placed upon educational psychologists are increasing, even as resources tighten. And yet, amidst these challenges, we are seeing renewed recognition of the vital role we play – in schools, in policy, and in the lives of children and young people.
I am only too aware of the challenges and opportunities that define our profession today, and I am excited to be taking on the role of General Secretary to lead us through them.
Dr Dan O’Hare, who leads edpsy, said:
It’s great to hear the news that the AEP has elected Donna as its new general secretary. We’re really looking forward to working with Donna and the AEP to further strengthen our collaboration.
We’re particularly keen to work together on building a strong, sustainable vision for the future of our profession—and to deepen ties across the whole EP community.
We’d also like to thank Dr Cath Lowther, the outgoing general secretary, for her work and for helping to build a stronger connection between the AEP and edpsy.
Elected by members, the General Secretary serves for a four year term as the chief officer and strategic leader of the trade union, guiding all aspects of the organisation and representing educational psychologists at all levels.
