What does it mean to be an activist in the pursuit of our own profession?
At last year’s edpsy festival, campaigner, educationalist, activist and teacher Bernard Coard challenged educational psychologists to think beyond critique and take more active, revolutionary roles in education.
Bernard is well known for his work exposing the racism underpinning the classification of Black children as ‘educationally subnormal’ and their placement in schools for children labelled in this way. In conversation with educational psychologists Dr Abi Miranda and Dr Sathya Gunetilleke, he explored the significance of this history and challenged us to consider our own responsibilities within education.
For Black History Month, we’re making this conversation freely available.
What would it mean to take Bernard’s challenge seriously in our professional practice today?
