The Psychologically Flexible School: A Whole Community Approach to Wellbeing in Education with Dr. Duncan Gillard

20/01/2022 - 16:00 to 16:30

Free

This 30 minute webinar explores the value of a whole-school approach to wellbeing, describing one example of a framework for enabling such a systems-wide approach. The session explores the various ways in which the term wellbeing can be defined, making the case that a clearly explicated and workable definition of wellbeing is essential if we are to make meaningful progress toward improved mental health and wellbeing for a school community. We will then explore the conception of wellbeing adopted by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and allied models, which emphases connection with personal value, values-based action and flexibly and openly relating to our inner world – to our thoughts, emotions and sensations. Finally, the session outlines a wide range of ways in which approaches based on Psychological Flexibility can be applied to promote and improve the wellbeing of children, school staff and parents and to promote whole-school community cohesion and belongingness.
