Join Plymouth’s Experts at Hand: Help Children & Young People Achieve, Flourish and Belong.

We are recruiting to a team of Assistant Educational Psychologists within Plymouth Educational Psychology Service, to support delivery of our Experts at Hand model from September 2026.

You wil be employed on a fixed term basis until 31/08/2028.

Plymouth is looking for passionate, collaborative, aspirational practitioners who want to be part of something innovative and ambitious. Experts at Hand is a locality-based, multidisciplinary SEND offer that brings specialist expertise directly into early years settings, mainstream schools, post-16 providers and further education, helping children and young people receive the right support earlier and enabling inclusion to become part of everyday practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in newly formed multi-disciplinary service. Educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, specialist teachers, alternative provision colleagues and specialist outreach practitioners will work alongside settings to coach, advise, model practice and build confidence across the workforce. The focus is on strengthening what works, reducing barriers and helping children and young people flourish in the environments where they learn and belong.

Plymouth is a great place to live and work. Nestled between the sea and the moors, this vibrant ocean city offers a distinctive quality of life alongside a strong sense of purpose. In many areas, culturally, socially, environmentally and economically, Plymouth has a rich offering to those seeking new opportunities, career change or relocation.

Team Plymouth is spearheading a £4.4 billion investment in HM Naval Base Devonport over the next decade. This massive influx of funding is projected to create up to 25,000 new jobs across the dockyard and wider supply chain over the next decade. For Plymouth and the surrounding South-West, this represents a structural shift into a high-skill, high-wage locality with opportunities that extend to all sectors. This is a fantastic opportunity for those with families considering relocation to Plymouth.

Experts at Hand will be organised through four localities, reflecting the unique nature of this ocean city, making support more accessible and more closely connected to schools, families and communities. The model offers clearer routes to advice and timely access to expertise through a single pathway, alongside consultation, classroom observation, coaching, modelling, training, group interventions and support for transitions and reintegration.

For practitioners, this is an opportunity to join an integrated team and help shape a new way of working. You will be connected to Family Hubs, health colleagues, inclusion services, schools, early years providers and post-16 partners, contributing to a city-wide effort to improve inclusion, attendance, belonging and outcomes for children and young people.

If you are motivated by partnership, creativity and impact, Plymouth offers the chance to do work that really matters. Experts at Hand is about bringing professional expertise closer to where it makes the biggest difference: with children, with families and in the settings where inclusion is built every day.

The Disclosure & Barring Service Check requirement for this post is: Enhanced Check + DBS Children’s Barred List.

Be part of Plymouth’s ambitious, exciting future. Help every child find a place to belong, to thrive, achieve and to flourish.
