A brief round of up things we’ve seen from the previous week that might be useful to you.

1. What works in the delivery of services for children with SEND

The report from researchers at the Warwick Business School reviewed the guidance on the delivery or services for children with SEND and took a ‘deep dive’ to look a five specific approaches in detail.

2. Three policies to reduce child poverty this parliament

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation briefing sets out which children are at greatest risk of severe and acute poverty, and what a child poverty strategy must include to address it.

3. Children’s play inequality across England

Paul Brindley and Michael Martin analysed data from 34,000 playgrounds in England to explore inequality in the provision of playgrounds. They found that “With the exception of London, deprived settlements in England tend to have fewer, smaller and further-away playgrounds.”

4. The Raising the Nation Play Commission final report

The Raising the Nation Play Commission ran a year-long independent inquiry into why play is critical to the wellbeing of children published its final report, “Everything to Play For: A Plan to Ensure Every Child in England Can Play” on Wednesday 11th June 2025.

5. The cost of caring 2025 – the reality of life for families raising disabled or seriously ill children

The Cost of Caring 2025 report draws on responses from more than 2,300 families raising disabled or seriously ill children across the UK. It shows that while families are doing all they can, many struggle day-to-day because of the unavoidable pressures of caring and the additional costs associated with disability.
