Keri’s work developing the Māori word ‘Takiwātanga‘, ‘in their own space and time’, reflecting a Māori world view of Autism, has received international attention and recognition.
Dr Cora Sargeant – Educational Psychologist and Research Director

Bernard Coard – Educationalist, Campaigner and Teacher

54 years ago Bernard Coard published one of the most important contributions to anti-racist practice in the UK educational context – ‘How the West Indian Child is made educationally subnormal in the British school system‘. This work brought to light the inequity and racist practices that led to hundreds of black children being sent to schools for the ‘Educationally Sub Normal’ – ESN schools. Bernard’s new book challenges us, as practitioners, to become a more dynamic, even revolutionary part of the learning experience of all children, especially those with the greatest needs and challenges.
